This episode offers a behind the scenes look into the (In)visible Organ art exhibit, which was exhibited at the Rubenstein Arts Center in February 2019. Curated by Libby Dotson, Adair Jones, and Diane Lee, this exhibit involved visual art, medical photography, sculptures, and installations, accompanied by in-depth interviews of women’s experiences with the Calla device. (In)visible Organ is a space that disrupts the narrative of invisibility and shame surrounding sexual and reproductive health by empowering cis women, trans men, and non-binary people to become active agents of their own bodies. -

In this episode, we highlight two artists who contributed to the (In)visible Organ Exhibit. Both Taji Jones (@tajisalon) and Claire Alexandre (@onlyclairity) are inspired by the stories that emerge from their surroundings, whether it be at a natural hair salon or in a rainforest. This episode explores the complex worlds and histories that influenced the artwork of these two artists. -

In this episode, Fati Abubakar (@fatiabubakar_) speaks to how social behaviors are influenced by the visual culture we are immersed in. For Abubakar, the camera is tool for uncovering truths about society by amplifying voices of stories often untold. In her photo series, “Nurses, Activists, and Innovators,” Abubakar highlights the incredible work of leaders in Accra, Ghana to prevent cervical cancer, capturing the beauty in working together towards a common goal of improving women’s health. We asked photographer Inès Bouallou (@inesbouallou) to reflect on identity and reproductive health. “Blood, Pressure, Liberation” reflects on the complex meanings that blood takes in a Moroccan ceremonial tradition, alluding to broader social barriers that women may face in taking care of their body’s health.
